"Respecting the Architecture and Materials of the Era, Updating Without Altering..."
A Family Home
Passed down through generations by the original owner and never leaving the family, Le Clos des Martines is a landmark in the village of Écos, right in the heart of Normandy. The building served as a refuge during the Vernon bombings in June 1940 before being occupied by Marshal Rommel’s soldiers – fortunately without suffering any damage.
This family home has since continued to host celebrations of joyous occasions, as recounted by the last descendant, Jean-Pierre Villez: the laughter from family reunions, happy holidays, and weddings still echo through the property! A history enthusiast and lover of old stone, the new owner has been renovating it for a year and a half, with the utmost respect for its original features to preserve its authenticity. He is dedicated to offering the public a unique and memorable experience by sharing this remarkable heritage and his passion for the art of hospitality.
Craftsmanship Excellence in the Service of Heritage
Committed to promoting responsible luxury, the new owner prioritizes local talent, who bring iconic architectural elements back to life: ridge tiles, pillars, moldings, stained glass windows, and other remarkable features such as parquet floors, cement tiles, radiators, and window and door handles. A craftsman at heart himself, the new owner works with a team specialized in renovation, enhancing the skills of traditional artisans.
When it comes to interior design, the choice of materials and furniture is carefully considered. Supported by Lucie Loistron, the owner and his wife carefully select each supplier to ensure modern comfort for their guests, while meeting today’s demands: a style perfectly in harmony with the house’s signature.
Thanks to a dedicated and talented team of craftsmen, who bring color and life back to Le Clos des Martines, this character-filled home will retain its 19th-century charm, soul, and appeal, offering guests a truly memorable experience.
